Moderno Porcelain Works specializes in the installation of high-quality porcelain surfaces in the residential and commercial markets. Sourcing our material from world-renowned suppliers, we install durable and eye-catching kitchen countertops, shower walls, bathroom vanities, fireplaces, and more.

Our in-house craftsmen have perfected the art of blending impeccable design and durable beauty in a fraction of the time and cost. By utilizing Moderno’s proprietary equipment and patent-pending techniques, we are able to fabricate and install large format porcelain slabs, making Moderno the superior choice for porcelain surfacing.

From material selection to estimating and onsite evaluation, we provide custom quoting for any project, which includes a complete one-year warranty consistent with the GC warranty to the owner.

It’s all about inspiration! We welcome homeowners and design professionals to visit their local HUB to see our porcelain showroom or we are happy to bring samples directly to the project site.

02100% Custom Applications

We partner with you to define the scope of work and verify the details of each install area for your project. We fabricate your materials at our HUB and then transport them to the project site.

03We Stand Behind Our Work

Upon completion of your project, our craftsman will dedicate time to show you how to take care of your new porcelain surfaces. Each of Moderno’s installations are guaranteed by our warranty to ensure customer satisfaction.

THE MODERNO STORY

To revolutionize the installation of unique porcelain surfaces, a perfect storm had to take place, one that combined the forces of several powerhouse leaders within the industry: the former CEO and CFO of the largest stone countertop distribution company in North America, the former Global Product Manager of Home Depot who oversaw $1 billion in annual materials purchasing, one of the world’s leading executives in the operations of commercial and new home construction, and the addition of a globally-respected expert who developed the tools and techniques to fabricate and install Moderno’s large format porcelain slabs.

Owned and operated by this executive team, Moderno Porcelain Works is exclusively composed of the industry’s premier authority figures in next-level surfacing.

MEET THE TEAM

Roberto Contreras
Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Contreras has been in the surfacing industry since 1987 and has made a name for himself as a respected entrepreneur. Mr. Contreras has founded and owned several highly successful companies, including CSC North America and Cosentino North America, increasing sales from $0 to $300 million. He is currently the President and CEO of St. Christopher Holdings and DC Partners; a privately-owned holding company, founded in 2009.

His accomplishments include: Receiving a national & international recognition for his business accomplishments, Time Magazine’s award to Cosentino’s product Silestone as one of the Visions of Tomorrow in 2004, 2005 Cosentino was recognized by Inc. 500 as one of the 500 fastest-growing private companies in the US.

Mike Heylmun
Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Heylmun has over 20 years of executive experience in the building and construction industry. He was a key partner in pioneering the North American quartz surfacing market and developing an organization that attained over $500 million in annual revenue. In 2000, amidst working with Roberto as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for C&C North America, he developed and managed the introduction of quartz surfacing into Home Depot, completing a national rollout in 24 months. During that time he established and managed a national network of fabrication partners servicing home center, K&B, builder and commercial projects.

His accomplishments include: Took over the strategic planning role for Cosentino North America and developed the strategic plan to expand the warehouse distribution model for the U.S. & Canada. He successfully grew each channel to $67 million and $89 million respectively in 2012 as the Vice President of commercial and builder sales. In 2016, Mike joined Camp Construction as the COO and expanded the multifamily business from 4 states to 16 with annual revenues growing from $75 million to $125 million.

Doug Dillard
Chief Financial Officer

In 2002, Mr. Dillard entered the stone countertop industry and has now worked with Moderno’s core executive team for nearly 20 years. As a well-seasoned finance professional in a variety of industries – including oil and gas, water utility, consumer credit, mortgage banking, real estate financing and development, and surfacing fabrication and distribution – he has worked with companies such as Citibank, AquaSource, Cosentino, PKF Texas CPAs, and St. Christopher Holdings. During his time at Cosentino, Mr. Dillard managed large accounting operations with over $450MM in annual revenues at peak levels. He also developed and managed all KPI reporting and Executive Meeting reports as Director of FP&A U.S. Operations.

Along with extensive experience as a technology consultant, installing ERPs in public accounting and being certified in Microsoft Dynamics and Jet Reports, his accomplishments include being named by the Houston Business Journal as a CFO of the Year finalist in both 2017 and 2018. Mr. Dillard is also Six Sigma Green Belt certified and has recently become a member of the University of Houston Real Estate Advisory Board.

Ben Szell
Chief Product Officer

Mr. Szell has more than 30 years of experience in the installation of marble, ceramic, granite, and glass. His experience began in Hungary, Italy and Austria where Benjamin worked with old craftsman performing restoration work on National Historic buildings. Now, Mr. Szell is recognized in the industry as a subject matter expert on installation techniques and methods.

His accomplishments include: Began developing the tools for the GPTP (Gauged Porcelain Tile Panel) in 2012 and by 2016 focused exclusively on this market segment. This involved developing the respective tools required to transport, handle, fabricate, and install large format porcelain.

Armin Deutsch
Executive VP of Procurement & Development

Mr. Deutsch has over 25 years of extensive experience in project management, construction, merchandising and purchasing. Mr. Deutsch previously worked for FORTUNE100 companies such as Home Depot, where he was responsible for purchasing volumes in excess of $1 billion annually as well as Cosentino USA. His diverse background includes managing construction projects in most major U.S. cities, as well as Canada.

Julie Kleine
Marketing Director

Julie Kleine is responsible for marketing programs, brand management, advertising, and public relations. Mrs. Kleine has more than 15 years of management experience in the publicly-traded real estate industry, including global sales and marketing, trade show development, digital/social and traditional media, and multilingual communications for international, commercial, and land information management consulting firms.

Rafael Alvarez
Chief People and Learning Officer

For over 20 years, Mr. Alvarez has been changing people’s lives by providing them training and career opportunities with which they can realize their true potential. Prior to joining the Moderno team, Mr. Alvarez was Founder and CEO of Genesys Works, a national social enterprise which he grew from zero to over one thousand employees. In addition to his role at Moderno, Mr. Alvarez is also a Lecturer in Management at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business.

His accomplishments include: named by Forbes Magazine as one of the world’s top 30 social entrepreneurs; received the 2012 Texas A&M University Entrepreneurial Leadership Award; named to the Aggie 100 list of fastest growing Aggie-led companies for three consecutive years; inducted into the Immigrant Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.
