Rock The Block: Episode 5

HGTV Rock the Block Season 4 Episode 5

A Mix of Textures with Large-Format Porcelain

Episode five of HGTV’s Rock the Block highlights the wonders of the outdoor living space. With only one week until the grand finale, each team is putting their creativity to the test when designing the outdoor living space. Season three winners, Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt returned to Rock the Block to judge the exterior spaces.

With this season’s block being in the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, it’s important to maintain the natural and rustic aesthetic of the homes’ environment. When the judges were outside of Michel’s and Anthony’s home, Michel said, “Sustainability is important to us. The exterior material may look like wood, but the cedar is a composite material, all recycled. It is great for the  wintertime to keep the heat inside.”

The competitors were tasked to add a “sports-inspired” activity outdoors. During this week’s episode, Sarah and Bryan added a parkour course in their backyard, finally taking home their first win of the season. The duo put a lot of thought into their home’s exterior by using Colorado Materials such as boulders and natural wood finishes to compliment the Rocky Mountains.

Large-format porcelain is a top choice when it comes to anything outdoor-related. It’s resistant to UV, heat, stains, and scratches.

How Does Large-Format Porcelain Get its Durability?

Besides porcelain being a sleek and luxurious material, it is a sustainable one. Porcelain is a man-made material composed of clay, water, and common rocks, all of which are naturally sourced. Much like a diamond, extreme heat and pressure are used to make porcelain, ultra-compact surfaces, and sintered stone. Sintering is the process of compacting and forming a solid mass of material by heat or pressure.

When looking to remodel your outdoor living area, an important factor to remember is the durability of the material you choose. This is what gives these material their durability making them resistant to extreme heat, UV, abrasions, scratches, and stains.

Moderno Porcelain Works can fabricate and install large-format porcelain slabs for just about any living area needs. With porcelain, it can replicate to look of natural stone and veining through advances in printing technology.
